2025 Taijiquan Science Conference Opens: International Scholars Discuss Scientific Development and Global Dissemination of Taijiquan
On September 18, 2025, the Taijiquan Science Conference officially opened at Henan Polytechnic University. With the theme “Sharing Taiji, Sharing Health,” the conference focused on scientific research, health promotion, educational inheritance, digital innovation, and industrial development of Taijiquan, attracting more than 400 experts and scholars from around the world.
Zhang Yuping, Secretary-General of the International Wushu Federation and Director of the Wushu Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Pan Qin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai University of Sport and Chairman of the Wushu and Traditional Ethnic Sports Branch of the China Sport Science Society, also addressed the conference.
At the opening ceremony, the “Intangible Cultural Heritage Wushu Large Model” Chen-Style Taijiquan Digital Avatar was unveiled, along with the donation of the Taijiquan Digital Museum and the launch of the Wuzang·Taijiquan project. According to reports, the conference received 1,028 academic submissions, of which 619 were accepted for presentation.
Representatives of the World Taiji Science Federation and distinguished guests, including Dean Guo Yucheng of the Wushu School of Shanghai University of Sport and Professor Hao Qinling, joined for group photos.
As an important international guest delegation, the World Taiji Science Federation Academic Mission was invited to attend. The delegation was led by Dr. Shudong Li, President of the Federation and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Taiji Science. Members included Professor Gloria Yeh of Harvard University, Dr. Samuel Montalvo of Stanford University, and experts from Universidad Manuela Beltrán in Colombia. Dr. Li delivered a keynote lecture on “Pathways for the International Development of Taijiquan under an Evidence-Based Framework.” Professor Yeh presented detailed data demonstrating the evidence-based value of Taijiquan in physical and mental health. Dr. Montalvo shared research findings on cardiovascular health, while the Colombian representative analyzed Taijiquan’s wellness mechanisms within the framework of Western medical systems.
Renowned Taijiquan Grandemasters Chen Xiaowang, Chen Zhenglei, Zhu Tiancai, and Zhao Youbin also attended the conference.
At the same time, the conference announced that the World Taiji Science Federation and Henan Polytechnic University, will jointly explore the establishment of an Overseas Expert Studio. This initiative aims to promote the global dissemination and development of Taijiquan through science-led, data-driven approaches.

The conference will continue until September 21, showcasing the latest achievements and broad prospects of Taijiquan’s digitalization and internationalization.
The delegation of the World Taiji Science Federation also visited the Taijiquan Laboratory at Henan Polytechnic University.
