Master Shudong Li
Master Shudong Li is the Founding President of the World Taiji Science Federation (WTSF) and the Executive Chairman of the World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC). He is a globally renowned expert in Chen-style Taijiquan, a pioneer of Medical Taiji education in the West, and one of the foremost advocates for integrating traditional martial arts with modern scientific research.
Master Li graduated from Luoyang Normal University and later earned his Ph.D. in Sport Science from Shanghai University of Sport, one of China’s top institutions for physical education and martial arts research. He trained under Grandmaster Wang Xian, a 9th-generation lineage holder of Chen-style Taijiquan, and is recognized as a 12th-generation inheritor of the Chen-style tradition. For over four decades, he has dedicated himself to the scholarly study, teaching, and global promotion of traditional Chinese martial arts and wellness systems.
In the United States, Master Li has played a transformative role in bringing Taiji into academic and clinical frameworks. He founded the Medical Taiji Program at Stanford University, designing innovative interdisciplinary curricula that connect Taiji philosophy and movement with Western science, anatomy, kinesiology, and preventive medicine. His work has influenced a wide range of students and professionals, including physicians, therapists, athletes, and scholars.
As a visionary leader, Master Li spearheads the World Wushu Open Championships, an inclusive international platform that fosters cultural exchange and athletic excellence among martial artists worldwide. Under his leadership, the WWOC has grown into one of the most respected global martial arts events.
He is also the founding editor and driving force behind the Journal of Taiji Science (JTS), a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal dedicated to advancing research in Taiji, Qigong, mind-body integration, and traditional health systems. His mission is to establish a credible and interdisciplinary scientific platform that bridges Eastern traditions with Western methodologies.
Beyond institutional leadership, Master Li is deeply committed to cultivating the next generation of global Taiji and Wushu leaders. He actively promotes international youth development and has launched and supported elite youth martial arts scholarships to nurture young practitioners with high potential. These efforts empower students across cultures to engage in traditional arts with academic and leadership aspirations.
