The World Taiji Science Federation is Non-profit organization, Composed of American, European institutions and Chinese universities, scientific research institutions and health and wellness associations, as well as other individual medical health experts, researchers and professors. Its predecessor was the National Tai Chi Wellness Foundation established in 2008. The Federation is committed to contribute to “Taiji Science” event and research as its leading mission; using scientific experiment data analysis, in cooperation with taiji organizations and groups to promote medical Taiji, Qigong, other wellness prescriptions, formulating Taiji standards, certification and education program . With the assistance of scientific research international exchanges, forums, and festivals, it promotes Taiji science, culture, and wellness on a global scale.
Starting in 2026, the Golden State International Wushu Championships — the largest Wushu event in the United States and successfully held for seventeen editions — will officially be upgraded to the World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC). This transformation marks a significant innovation in the global promotion of Wushu and signals a new era for the tournament in terms of scale, level, and international influence.
The World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) is rooted in the rich traditions of Chinese martial arts and embraces a global perspective. As a major expansion of the international Wushu competition system, the event integrates both high-level competitive categories and beginner-friendly routines, along with honorary recognitions. This year’s championship will gather top athletes and teams from around the world to compete in diverse martial arts styles such as traditional and modern Wushu, Shaolin, Wing Chun, Taijiquan (Tai Chi), and Health Qigong. With events ranging from individual performances to choreographed sparring and group showcases, the competition will offer a comprehensive display of the skills and essence of various Chinese martial arts schools and lineages.
WTSF has successfully hosted multiple editions of the Taiji Science Forum and the World Intangible Cultural Heritage Taiji Masters Exhibition, laying a strong foundation for international academic exchange. Building on this success, WTSF will launch the World Congress on Sports and Health Sciences in 2026 to further promote scientific development in Taiji, Qigong, and wellness practices.
WTSF maintains long-term collaboration with renowned academic institutions and platforms, including the Harvard Osher Center’s Conference on Taiji, Qigong, and Mind-Body Health, the international conference series organized by iMTQA, and the International Taijiquan Science Conference hosted by the Wushu and Traditional Sports Committee of the China Sport Science Society.
In addition, WTSF works closely wiht 9th Duan martial arts grandmasters, leading Taiji lineage holders, and world champions. Together, they are committed to advancing scientific research and enhancing the global impact of traditional martial arts and wellness practices in serving human health and well-being.
The Journal of Taiji Science (JTS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access, and indexed academic journal, available in both print (ISSN 2832-0611) and electronic (ISSN 2832-062X) formats. JTS is committed to promoting rigorous scientific research and interdisciplinary dialogue in the fields of Taiji, Qigong, and a broad range of health and wellness practices.
The journal features original research articles, review papers, and scholarly essays covering topics such as psychological health, exercise science, integrative medicine, public health, and mind-body wellness. JTS also welcomes contributions from the humanities, philosophy, and cultural studies that explore the origins, evolution, and global relevance of traditional movement systems.
All submissions are published in English and undergo a thorough peer-review process to ensure academic excellence and originality. With an inclusive international perspective, JTS aims to serve as a leading platform for researchers, scholars, practitioners, and educators working at the intersection of tradition, science, and health to support human well-being through evidence-based practice.
WTSF, in collaboration with its global association network and the World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) platform, has launched the Youth Wushu Elite Scholarship Program. Outstanding youth athletes are selected through the WWOC All-Around Championship to form the WWOC World Champions Elite Team, receiving sponsorship to support their professional training, academic development, leadership growth, and active participation in university-level Taiji and Wushu clubs.
This initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of international youth leaders in Taiji, Qigong, and Wushu by combining high-level competition with sustained mentorship and educational opportunities. The program is further supported by global efforts such as international training camps, official Duan certification programs in Chinese Wushu and Health Qigong, and cultural exchange training at historic martial arts sites in China.
WTSF is committed to empowering youth through martial arts, integrating sport, education, and community leadership to foster a culturally grounded and globally connected new wave of martial arts ambassadors.
